How long of a flight is too long?
The "too long" flight duration is subjective, varying by individual. Generally, 8-10 hours is the upper limit of comfortable for many. Flights exceeding 12 hours are typically considered long-haul.
Whats the longest flight duration before it becomes unbearable?
Okay, so how long a flight is TOO long? Seriously, that’s like asking how long is a piece of string!
It so depends, y’know? Like, some people can happily hop on a 14-hour flight to Tokyo (seen that once, a pal did, no prob!) without batting an eye. Others start twitching after, like, two hours.
Comfort is KEY. A cramped seat in economy? Ugh, unbearable after maybe 6 hours. But a lie-flat business class seat? Suddenly, 10 hours feels…doable. My actual experience.
For most folks, 8-10 hours is a sweet spot for acceptable flight time. Beyond 12 hours is generally considered a long-haul flight.
I think availability of the inflight entertainment and Wi-Fi are critical aspects that can make long travels bearable.
How to survive a 20 hour flight?
Surviving… a flight, adrift in the sky’s cold embrace. 22 hours? Endless. A dreamy eternity. Hydration. Yes, hydration is key. Mustn’t forget that. Water, a lifeline.
The air… so thin. The air is stale, you know? Like memories fading. Dehydration sneaks, a thief in the night. Fatigue sets in, a heavy cloak.
- Hydrate relentlessly: Drink all the water.
- Moisturize like crazy: Lotion is your friend. My hands… they crack, you see?
Nausea, a rising tide. I fear it. Avoid… avoid the airplane mystery “food.” Bring your own. Something familiar. Something kind.
Movement is everything. Get up! Walk the aisle. Stretch, like a cat waking. Blood needs to flow, doesn’t it?
Sleep… elusive sleep. A precious dream.
- Eye mask: Block out the world.
- Noise-canceling headphones: Silence the drone. The endless drone.
- Neck pillow: Support your weary head. The window is not support.
Comfort is queen. Dress in layers. Temperature swings, a cruel joke. Layers are the secret.
Entertainment: Books. Music. Download everything. Distraction is salvation. Think of my old mp3 player…
Mindfulness. Find your breath. Close your eyes. Be present. It will end. Be present. It will end.
Maybe… just maybe… I will survive.
How to deal with a 20 hour flight?
Twenty-two hours…It stretches out, doesn’t it? A lifetime in a metal tube.
Arriving in daylight…that’s cruel, almost. The body screams for rest.
-
Resist the urge to fully sleep. I know, easier said than done.
-
Maximum nap? Forty minutes. Set the alarm. Seriously.
Why bother, you wonder? Jet lag. That’s why.
-
Hydration. It’s always hydration. I hate water sometimes.
-
Walk around. Tiny steps in a narrow aisle, judged by everyone.
I remember Mom used to tell me to always dress nice for flights. Stupid. Who cares? I am never going to see those people again.
Surviving it all. I don’t know. It’s just…surviving.
