Vietnam Trip Duration:

A 7-10 day trip balances culture and scenery. This allows for key destinations like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Ha Long Bay. Two weeks offers a more in-depth exploration, allowing for additional sights and activities. Shorter trips may necessitate focusing on a specific region.

How many days do you need in Vietnam?

Seven to ten days in Vietnam felt rushed to me. I went in March 2022, spent two weeks, and still felt like I missed things.

I flew into Ho Chi Minh City, spent a few days there, then flew to Hanoi. Hanoi was amazing, so different from the south. Ha Long Bay was beautiful, but touristy. Even two full days there didn’t feel like enough.

Two weeks let me see the highlights, but I could have easily spent three. Especially if you want to explore areas outside the main cities. Like, I really wanted to go to Sapa, but didn’t have time.

7-10 days for hitting major spots: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Long Bay. Two weeks for more in-depth exploration. Three weeks? Ideal.

How many days are enough to see Vietnam?

Seven days? A glance. Ten? Minimum. Surface scratched.

Vietnam demands time. Not tourism.

  • North: Sapa. Hagiang is Better.
  • Central: Hue. Hoi An. Obvious choices.
  • South: Mekong. Phu Quoc. Tourist traps are real.

Dig deeper. Learn the language.

Don’t just exist, live. I visited Hoi An; still feels like yesterday, you know.

How much money do I need for 4 days in Vietnam?

Four days in Vietnam? Hmm. Three hundred dollars feels… tight. Especially if you want anything beyond the bare minimum. It’s doable, I guess, but…

Accommodation: Expect basic hostels. Forget fancy hotels on that budget. Maybe $10-$15 a night, tops. That’s pushing it.

Food: Street food is your friend. But even that adds up. I spent more like $20 a day easily. Some days much more.

Transportation: Local buses are cheap. But taxis and Grab (the ride-hailing app) eat up the money quickly, especially in the cities. I ended up walking a lot. My feet hurt.

Activities: Forget the big tourist traps. You’ll be lucky to afford even minor sightseeing with such a low budget in 2024.

I’d say realistically, $500 is more appropriate. Maybe even $600 to avoid constant worry. That’s what I would have preferred. This feels truer to my experience. Three hundred is stressful.
