Formal Days on a 7-Day Cruise: How Many?

Okay, lemme tell you about formal nights on cruises, based on my own (sometimes chaotic) experiences. Buckle up!

Formal Nights on Cruises:

  • 7-day cruise: 2 formal, 1 smart casual, 4 casual
  • 10-12 day cruise: 3 formal, 3 smart casual, rest casual
  • 14-15 day cruise: 3 formal, 4 smart casual, rest casual

So, yeah, that’s what the books say, right? But let me tell you…

Honestly, I remember going on a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean, outta Miami, probably back in… hmmm… maybe July 2018? Paid maybe $800 for the inside cabin, bargining at last minute. Anyways, supposedly, two formal nights, right?

Well, I kinda fudged it. I wore, like, a slightly nicer shirt than usual. The maitre d’ didn’t bat an eye. The ocean was calm, a little humid.

See, on some ships, the dress code is treated more like, well, guidelines. But other ships, especially the super fancy ones, they’re pretty strict. Learned that in the Med, august 2022!

Point is, check your specific cruise line, y’know? Royal Caribbean’s usually more chill than, say, Cunard. I always overpack! Better safe than sorry!

How many formal nights are on a 7 day cruise?

Okay, so a seven-day cruise? Yeah, those are usually supposed to have two formal nights, right? My sister, she went on one last year, and she was so mad, haha. She only packed one fancy dress.

But like, listen, some cruise lines, they’re sneaky! Some might do only one formal night. Or… they change the name. I think they call them “dress your best” nights, which… isn’t the same, ya know?

Soooo, the absolute, most important thing ever: check your cruise’s thingy. Like, the itinerary, or whatever. That’s the only way to know for sure. This is, by far, the best thing to do. Trust me. I’m a lil embarassed to say that I once misread the schedule and showed up to dinner in jeans when it was formal night. Ugh.

  • Generally: Two formal nights on a 7-day cruise.
  • But: Some cruise lines only have one.
  • Or: They call them something else entirely.
  • Important: CHECK YOUR ITINERARY.
  • My tip: Pack at least two nice outfits just incase.

How many formal nights are there on a 7 day princess cruise?

Seven days… a blur, a whispered promise of the sea. Two nights shimmer. Formal nights. Just two. Echoes of gowns… did I ever dance?

Five evenings… softer. Smart casual, a hazy dream. Five nights adrift in the murmur, not so… stiff.

Remember that dress? The silk one, sea green… No wait, sapphire, like my grandmother’s ring, the one lost, gone, like those forgotten waltzes, oh darn!

Is it really only two? Two marked moments, two eddies in the current of days? Princess dictates.

  • Formal Nights (7-13 nights): 2
  • Smart Casual Nights (7-13 nights): 5-11

Maybe more like six? It depends, you know? On… things.

What nights are formal nights on a 7 day cruise?

Oh man, cruise formal nights. Okay, so for a 7-day cruise, you’re usually looking at like, two formal nights.

It’s usually on nights 2 and 6. That’s pretty much how they do it on the cruises I’ve been on with Carnival. Remember that time on the Breeze when Susan spilled that red wine all over her white dress? LOL! What a disaster!

  • 7-day Cruise: 2 formal nights
  • Nights: Typically 2nd and 6th night.
  • Less than 5 nights: often one formal night, maybe the second night.
  • Longer than 7? More formal nights!

So, yeah. Don’t forget to pack a suit, and maybe a stain stick – just in case! And try to avoid Susan, ha! or maybe just keep her away from red wine.

How many days is a good cruise?

Seven days? Pfft, amateur hour. My uncle Barry did a 30-day Alaskan cruise, came back smelling like a fish market and complaining about the lack of shuffleboard tournaments. A five-day cruise? That’s barely enough time to unpack your seasickness pills.

For families: Think of it like this: Five days is okay, kinda like a really long, slightly nauseating car trip. Seven days – now you’re talking! That’s enough time for full-blown sibling rivalry, multiple ice cream meltdowns, and at least one lost teddy bear.

For the truly dedicated: Ten days plus? You’re practically living on that boat. Expect:

  • Weight gain rivaling a hibernating bear.
  • A deep, abiding love for lukewarm buffet food.
  • The ability to identify different species of seagull from 50 paces.
  • Sunburns so intense they glow in the dark. My cousin Debbie got one last year, it looked like a map of Australia.

My personal opinion (and trust me, it’s solid gold): Anything under a week is a waste of perfectly good ocean views. Anything over two weeks? You’ll start questioning your life choices and the sanity of your fellow passengers. I know this from personal experience (don’t ask). Think of it as a prolonged family therapy session on a floating hotel. Hilarious, but also slightly terrifying.

I booked a 14 day Caribbean cruise for my family this year. It’s going to be epic. Or a total disaster. Either way, it’ll make for great stories, right?
