How much cash are you legally allowed to carry?

How much cash can you actually carry around legally? Seriously, the thought makes me sweat. Like, imagine stuffing a million bucks in your purse – I'd be a walking heart attack! I mean, I know there's no official limit in the US for domestic travel, at least not one they're going to loudly shout from the rooftops. But a million dollars? Are you kidding me? That's a heist waiting to happen!

I remember my aunt, bless her heart, she used to carry a surprisingly large amount of cash. Not a million, of course, but enough to make me cringe. She'd pay for everything in cash, even big purchases, and always kept a thick wad in her purse. She nearly had a coronary when someone tried to pickpocket her at the farmer's market once! That was the day she finally got a debit card, lol. It was such a dramatic event, you’d think it was out of a movie.

So, yeah, while technically you can carry as much cash as you want, practically speaking... well, it's insane! The risk of losing it, getting robbed, or just dropping a wad on the subway... it's a nightmare scenario. Give me the security and convenience of a debit card any day. Less stress, less drama, and way less chance of ending up on the news for some crazy cash-related incident. Think about it – is it really worth the risk? Probably not.
