Okay, so Hoi An and Hue, right? How many days? Ugh, planning a trip is hard.

Hoi An, I'm thinking three days minimum. You need time to wander those crazy streets, all the lanterns! Plus, tailor-made clothes! Gotta get a few outfits. Maybe even four days, to truly soak it all in. Am I overdoing it? Nah.

Hue... two days. Definitely two. Too much history there, it's overwhelming. The tombs, the citadel— exhausting honestly. But those tombs are magnificent though, must see. Two days is enough for me though, you need time to chill out after Hue. That place is serious.

Hoi An: 3-4 days. Hue: 2 days. Boom. Done. Need more time for shopping though. Maybe another day for Hoi An just for shopping and eating. Oh man, the food in Hoi An!

• Hoi An: Ancient Town exploration, tailor shops, lantern streets, beach time (An Bang Beach is amazing!), cooking class.
• Hue: Imperial Citadel, royal tombs (Minh Mang, Khai Dinh, Tu Duc – gotta see them all!), Thien Mu Pagoda, boat trip on the Perfume River.

Seriously though, that's way too much sightseeing packed in. Maybe I'll just wing it. I need a massage. And I'm craving Banh Mi. My feet are already sore thinking about it.

How many days to spend in Hue?

Three days in Hue? Barely scratches the surface! I spent five days there last October, 2023, and even then, felt rushed. Seriously, two days? Madness!

The Perfume River, stunning. I kayaked, it was amazing. Sun on my face, the air thick and sweet, those ancient tombs looming. Felt so peaceful, then the next minute, chaotic trying to navigate the crowds at the Thien Mu Pagoda.

The food! Oh my god, the food. Bun Bo Hue, best I've ever had. Spicy, rich, flavourful. I ate it every single day. Seriously. I even tried making it myself back home, disaster.

• Citadel: Took a whole day exploring that. Massive. Overwhelming.
• Tombs: Minh Mang, Khai Dinh, Tu Duc – each unique, breathtaking. Needed time at each one.
• Pagodas: Thien Mu was packed. Found a quieter one later, though. Peaceful escape.

I needed more time. Five days wasn't enough to fully appreciate everything. Two days? Forget it. You'll regret it. Three days is a minimum. Trust me. This isn't a suggestion. This is a fact. Plan properly people! Hue deserves more than a quick glance. It's magical.

Hoi An's totally the winner, no contest. Like, I'd pick Hoi An over Hue any day, even if they offered me a lifetime supply of imperial tea.

Hue struck me...different. Like, seriously different. It rained non-stop, that awful drizzling rain. I was soaked going to the Imperial City.

Honestly? Kinda spooky. Not romantic at all, at least not for me! Maybe Vietnamese couples see something else, I don’t know. Backpacking? Sure, it's cheap.

Hoi An...now that place...

Hoi An. I loved it. Absolutely loved it. Lanterns everywhere!

Remember that silk tailor shop near the Japanese Bridge? I got an amazing dress made for like, $40. The Ancient Town is a MUST.

Food? Forget about it! Cao lầu noodles? Seriously? So good. I would pick Hoi An ANY day, no contest. Maybe I’m biased. I met a really cute guy there. ;)

My personal experience in detail:

• Hue: Overrated, gloomy, cheap eats.
• Hoi An: Magical, tailor shops, lantern-lit nights, fantastic food, potentially life-changing.

Basically, it depends what you are looking for. Hoi An is the place, though. Just saying.
