How to afford to go to Disney World?

Oh, Disney World! The dream, right? But the cost… Ugh. Honestly, its doable, but you need a plan. Forget the travel agent – I found better deals online. Shoulder season is key, and seriously, ditch the car – Disney transportation is surprisingly efficient. Free Genie options are your friend, and souvenirs? One or two meaningful items, not a mountain of plastic junk. A resort day instead of a park day? Brilliant! That saved us a ton.

How on earth do you afford Disney World? Seriously, I asked myself that same question! Disney World…the dream, right? But that price tag? Yikes! It felt like a fantasy, until we actually did it. So, here’s the lowdown from someone who’s been there, done that, and didn’t sell a kidney to do it.

Forget the travel agent, honestly. I wasted so much time talking to them, and they didn’t really get what we wanted. I found way better deals, honestly, just scouring the internet myself. It was a little overwhelming at first, but so worth it. Travel sites, comparing prices… you get the picture. We booked flights and a hotel during the shoulder season – that made a huge difference! I mean, who wants to fight crowds anyway?

And the car? Dump it! Seriously, Disney’s transportation is amazing. We used the buses, monorail – even the boats a couple of times! It was way less stressful than dealing with parking and driving around that giant place. It also saved us a fortune! Remember that gas money we didn’t spend? Think of all the churros that bought us!

Then there’s the Genie thing…the free options are lifesavers. We didn’t go crazy with the paid stuff; I honestly didn’t see the need. The free options helped us plan our days and navigate the parks pretty effectively, way better than just winging it. Plus, remember all those lines? We were able to use the Genie to minimize that headache.

And souvenirs? Oh boy, the souvenir temptation… We learned our lesson quick! One or two meaningful items – not a mountain of cheap plastic crap that ends up at the bottom of a closet. My daughter got a beautiful little stuffed Mickey, and my son got a cool light-up sword. That was it. No regrets! We took tons of pictures though, that’s our main souvenir.

But the real money-saver? Believe it or not, it was skipping a park day and spending a whole day relaxing at the resort. We had a blast at the pool, ordered room service, just chilled out – and it saved us a HUGE chunk of money. Plus, it meant we weren’t completely exhausted every day! Who knew relaxation could be so frugal? It was the best decision.

So yeah, Disney World is expensive, but totally doable. You just gotta be smart about it. It’s all about planning and prioritising, honestly. And remember the churros. They’re worth it.
