Okay, so you’re trying to save some cash with FedEx, huh? I feel you – shipping can be a real budget killer! I remember once shipping a gift to my niece, and the shipping cost almost as much as the gift itself! Madness, right? So, here are some tricks I’ve learned along the way to soften the blow to your wallet:

• Ditch the Pickup Fee: Seriously, why pay for someone to pick up your package when you can just drop it off yourself? FedEx has tons of drop boxes and retail locations everywhere. I mean, there’s one like, two blocks from my apartment. Super convenient! Saves you a few bucks, too. Win-win!
• Shop Around for the Best Rates: Don’t just accept the first price you see! There are these amazing online tools and shipping software programs – some even compare rates across different carriers! I use one, can’t remember the name right off the bat, but it’s saved me a ton of money. I’ll try to remember to add it in the comments later, maybe?
• Packaging – It’s More Important Than You Think: Okay, this is a big one. Dimensional weight, you know? That sneaky little fee based on the size of your package, not just the weight? Grrr. So use the smallest box possible! And lightweight packaging materials! I’ve started reusing those air-filled packing pillows whenever I can. It feels good for the planet and my wallet.
