South Vietnam Itinerary: What to do for a week in South Vietnam?

Okay, so a week in South Vietnam? Hmm, let me think.

South Vietnam in 7 days: Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc Island. A quick blast through the highlights, you know?

Personally, I'd kick off in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City, that is). Two days exploring? Easily. Crazy traffic, amazing food, history everywhere. I spent like, $50 (maybe less?) on street food alone there back in '18. Worth it, tbh.

Then, Mekong Delta. Two days is perfect. Imagine floating markets bursting with color! I remember buying this amazing mango on a boat, tasted like pure sunshine. Serious.

Phu Quoc Island is where things get chill. Those beaches... daydreamy sigh. Two or three days there, soaking up the sun. Wish I brought more sunscreen, tho! Learn from my burn, people. Trust.

How to spend 7 days in Vietnam?

Okay, Vietnam... seven days? Hmm.

Day 1: Hanoi. Land. FOOD. Oh man, gotta hit up that pho place near Hoan Kiem Lake. Is it still there? Nightlife... Beer Street! Yup. Chaotic.

Day 2: Ha Long Bay. Cruise, obviously. Kayaking? Def. Fishing villages... touristy, but okay. Wonder how many boats are actually electric now.

Day 3: Phong Nha. Caves! Paradise Cave is a must. Adventure stuff? Ziplining? I'm too old for that stuff! Maybe.

Day 4: Tan Hoa. Rural retreat? Nature? Never heard of it. Is that near the caves? Maybe skip.

  • North: Hanoi
  • Central: Phong Nha, Tan Hoa
  • South: Not specified in the original plan.

Wait, a whole week and no Ho Chi Minh City?! That's insane! Okay, gotta re-think this.

Maybe fly to Da Nang from Hanoi, then hit Hoi An instead of Tan Hoa? Then fly south. Okay, much better.

Day 5: Hoi An. Tailors! Lanterns! Beaches! My sister would love this. Food tours are mandatory, obviously.

Day 6: Fly to Ho Chi Minh City. War Remnants Museum is a must. Emotional, but important. Rooftop bars? Okay, yes.

Day 7: Mekong Delta. Floating markets, boat trips. It's hot, humid, and awesome. Then fly home. Ugh.

  • Revised Plan:
    • Day 1: Hanoi
    • Day 2: Ha Long Bay
    • Day 3: Fly to Da Nang, transfer to Hoi An
    • Day 4: Hoi An
    • Day 5: Hoi An
    • Day 6: Fly to Ho Chi Minh City
    • Day 7: Mekong Delta, fly home.

Yeah, that's much better. Still rushed, but covers more ground. Need more time. Vietnam is BIG.

How long to spend in South Vietnam?

South Vietnam? Two weeks, minimum.

  • Ho Chi Minh City: 3 days. War Remnants Museum is not optional.

  • Mekong Delta: 3 days. Markets pulse with life, inescapable heat.

  • Mui Ne: 2 days. Sand dunes, harsh sun. Survive it.

  • Da Lat: 3 days. A fabricated romance.

  • Phu Quoc: 3 days. Escape? Hardly.

Too much? Cut Phu Quoc. Da Lat. Your loss.
