Street food is AMAZING there, you gotta try it all. Maybe even a day trip outta town if you’re feeling adventurous.
Honestly, I spent about that much time there back in, like, November ’19? (Can’t believe how long ago that feels). I felt it was a great “sampler” but still wanted more.
Plus, I took a cooking class one of the days. Learned to make pho (sorta), spring rolls, and this amazing green papaya salad. Cost me about $40, super fun.
Four days gets you a solid feel, lets you wander, eat, and not feel rushed. Longer? Sure, deep dive more, but that’s a whole other level.

Three days in Hanoi? Nah, that’s way too short! My cousin, Sarah, went for five and even she said she needed more time. Seriously, it’s jam-packed with stuff. You’ll be rushing around like crazy if you only do three.

Four days is a better bet, maybe even five, depending on how much you wanna cram in. I’d personally do five. Less stress that way. Plus, finding a great rooftop bar with a killer view takes time. You can’t rush perfection, right? And finding those hidden little cafes..those are the best part!
To be honest, if you’re short on time, focus on the Old Quarter and a couple of must-see temples. Skip the museums if you’re really pressed for time, you can always go back next year! But seriously, five days is ideal.

- Four days (or more): Slow down. Consider a cooking class. Maybe Ninh Binh (Bai Dinh Pagoda and Trang An). That’s my mother’s village, more or less. She would hate it here.
Time is relative, isn’t it? Like the taste of pho from a street vendor versus a fancy restaurant. Both pho, both different. Ha.

- Bars: Rooftop views exist. Overrated.
- Cafes:Ca phe trung (egg coffee). Try it. Once.
- Food: Eat bun cha. Not the tourist traps. Find a local place. Trust me (but don’t). 2024 tips.
