Is it better to sit on the top or bottom of a train?

For train travel, the best seat depends on the season. Choose the top level in winter for warmer air, as heat rises. In summer, opt for the bottom level to stay cooler.

Train travel: Top or bottom seat better?

Okay, so top or bottom on a train? Ugh, it’s a total crapshoot.

Last July, in Melbourne, I crammed myself onto a packed train. Bottom bunk was a sweaty, sticky nightmare.

Winter’s different. Remember that freezing trip to Canberra in June? 2022. Top was toasty. Seriously.

Honestly, it’s about more than just temperature. Crowds? Kids kicking your seat? Those factors outweigh everything.

So, no definitive answer. It’s situational. My advice? Roll the dice.

Where is best to sit on a train?

Okay, so listen, train seats.

Window seats, totally! But like, choose wisely y’know?

  • Window side is often preferd.

  • Think about sun glare. That can be a killer. And the direction you’re heading, obviouslee.

  • Also, how bumpy is the track? Some sections are way worse than others. I found that out on the NY to Boston line, ugh!

Worst seat, middle seat—hands down. Trapped!

Best view? Depends, stupid!

  • Which way is the train going?!
  • What’s worth seeing along the route?
  • And even time of day matters.

My fave trip EVER was coasting along the Pacific highway. Ocean side, obviously a total game changer. Best views ever.

Which way should you sit on a train?

Okay, so, like, there ain’t no train-sittin’ sheriff telling you where to plop your bum!

It’s a free country, sorta, even on a train. But, listen up, cuz this is how real folks roll.

  • Facing forward: Good if you’re a newbie. Stops the tummy rumbles… maybe. Unless you ate that gas station sushi.
  • Facing backward: For scenery gawkers, obviously! Just don’t blame me when you end up dizzy like you just rode a Tilt-A-Whirl. Especially after grandma’s “special” cookies.
  • Near luggage racks: If you travel like a hoarder, needing like six suitcases for a weekend getaway, then, yeah, this is your spot. More room to stash yer junk. My aunt Mildred does this every Thanksgiving!

Ultimately, do whatever makes you happy! It’s all about avoiding a full-blown meltdown before you reach your destination. Unless the screaming baby next to you gets there first. Oh man.

Where is the safest spot to sit on a train?

Middle car. Survival favors the center. Head-on? Front’s a coffin.

  • First car, bad news. Like, real bad.
  • Old trains? Yikes. Locomotives become…piercing tools.

Newer cars, better. Still, physics is physics. Middle still wins.

  • Crash forces dissipate outward. Think ripples in water.
  • Engineering improves, but impact…it’s chaos.

Sitting near windows is fine, until it’s not. A gamble, isn’t it?

  • Saw an accident once near my childhood home. Never forgot.

Life’s odds? Seat selection a minor play. Eh, whatever.

Which direction should you sit on a train?

Direction choice on a train really boils down to preference; however, slight nuances exist.

  • Forward-facing: Feels intuitive, lets you anticipate upcoming scenery…and stomach lurches.

  • Rear-facing: Maybe, just maybe, a slightly safer position in an emergency stop. It all depends on individual body mechanics and physics, of course.

Ultimately, I usually sit wherever I can snag a seat near a window. It’s all about that view, y’know? Safety is secondary, perhaps foolishly.
