Is it better to stay in Halong Bay or Hanoi?
Halong Bay or Hanoi: Which is better?
Okay, here's my take on whether Hanoi or Halong Bay is "better," based on my own, y'know, stuff.
Hanoi wins, hands down, if you want stuff to do. I spent like, 4 days there, wandering around, eating pho... and it STILL felt like I could have done more. Halong Bay is stunning, but after 2 days, I was ready to go.
Hanoi: More to do. Halong Bay: More relaxing.
My family, though, they loved Halong Bay. Maybe it's the boat trips, maybe it's the kayaking... but they could chill there for a week, easy. I think they prefer the nature. It really depends on who you ask, eh?
If you're after a quick trip, Halong Bay (2-3 days) fits the bill. Hanoi (3-5 days) has more attractions. Families often enjoy Halong Bay longer than Hanoi.
I remember one trip, specifically, we took a boat tour in Halong Bay. Paid around $150 per person. The views? Unbelievable. The internet? Not so much. Also, the food was... passable. So, yeah, it really boils down to personal preference!
Halong Bay is great, but for me, Hanoi just has more, you know, life.
How long should I stay in Halong Bay?
Halong? Two days. Minimum. One day? Barely scratched.
Two days: The standard. Enough for a taste. Caves. Culture. Scenery.
One day: A rush. Tourist traps loom. Misses the essence. Not recommended.
Me? I spent four. Still wasn't enough.
More:
Consider three days/two nights for better relaxation and less rushing.
Bay is weather-dependent. Plan accordingly. Check forecasts.
Don't forget Lan Ha Bay. More secluded, less crowded. I loved it.
