In big cities like Hanoi, or Ho Chi Minh City? Easier, you know? More options. You’ll find them. But outside of those? Well, buckle up, buttercup. Prepare for…possibilities.

Public restrooms exist more readily in the central tourist centers of major cities. In smaller towns, and rural areas, public facilities are scarcer.

I remember being in Hoi An. Beautiful town, but finding a loo? Nightmare. Wandered around for ages! It made the Old Quarter less charming, I ain’t gonna lie. Eventually ducked into a cafe. Bought a ridiculously overpriced iced coffee, just to use their bathroom. Cost me like, 70,000 VND? Roughly $3 USD. Worth it, tho.

See, the thing is, “public” isn’t always public. Like, you might need to buy somethin’. Or it might be…an experience. Squat toilets are common, especially outside the main touristy areas. I’ve seen some things, lemme tell ya. Not always clean, not always…pleasant.
