Is it okay to sleep on Shinkansen?
Is it okay to sleep on a Shinkansen? Oh, absolutely! It's perfectly fine, in fact, I'd say it's practically encouraged! Those Shinkansen journeys can be surprisingly long sometimes, even if they don't have actual sleeping cars like some of the overnight trains. Right? I mean, who hasn't nodded off on a train journey before?
They don't have designated sleeping carriages because most trips are relatively short, you know, like a few hours max. So you’ll just be dozing in a regular seat, much like on a plane or a long bus ride. I remember once, traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto… I was exhausted. I'd been sightseeing all day, and the gentle rocking of the Shinkansen… well, it just lulled me right to sleep. Woke up just as we were pulling into the station. It was perfect! So yeah, don't worry about it, snooze away! Just maybe don't drool on your neighbor, haha!
