How does Grab work in Vietnam?

Okay, so Grab in Vietnam. Lemme tell you about my motorbike misadventure last summer, August 2024, in Saigon.

It was ridiculously hot. I was trying to get from Ben Thanh Market to the War Remnants Museum. Super touristy, I know. Figured Grab was the way to go.

First, you need the app. Obviously. Download it. It’s free, duh.

My phone was overheating, naturally. Setting my location… okay, done. Find the little green dot – that’s you!

Choosing… hmm. They have car Grabs. But motorbikes are faster. And cheaper. Plus, you feel the real Saigon heat, haha. YOLO, right?

I picked a GrabBike. It was like, 30,000 VND? Dirt cheap.

Now the waiting game. You watch the driver’s little picture inch closer on the map. It’s kinda mesmerizing, I guess.

This dude showed up on a beat-up Honda Wave. He was wearing a faded helmet. Offered me one too. Which was nice.

Helmet ON. Safety first, even in Vietnam.

He didn’t speak much English. Just nodded when I showed him the museum on my phone.

Then, hold on tight! We were weaving through traffic like crazy. Seriously insane. Buses, cars, other motorbikes, scooters laden with chickens… You name it.

I was lowkey terrified. But also kinda exhilarated, gotta admit. Like a freaking video game.

Got to the museum in record time. Paid the guy, hopped off. Legs a little wobbly, not gonna lie.

Grab is a lifeline there, seriously.

Grab Services? Think of it like this:

• GrabBike: Motorbike taxis – fast, cheap, slightly terrifying.
• GrabCar: Regular cars – more comfortable, more expensive.
• GrabFood: Food delivery – endless options. From pho to banh mi.
• GrabMart: Groceries and essentials – super convenient.
• GrabExpress: Package delivery – because why not?

Oh and they have GrabPay now too. So you can pay with your card or their wallet! Super convenient if you don’t have cash.

I was there in 2024. Grab was everywhere. Super popular. Especially in the cities like Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. No getting around the place without using Grab.

What happens if I dont pay my Grab PayLater?

Suspended. That’s the word. A cold, hard, echoing word. My Grab PayLater account, adrift in the digital ether. No more effortless transactions. No more… ease.

The silence screams. A vacuum where swipes once lived, vibrant with possibility. My life, suddenly less fluid. Less… me.
