Is a trip to Hue worth it?

Okay, so, is Hue worth it? Like, really worth it? Yeah, I think so.

Hue was, like, the old capital of Vietnam, right? Palaces, temples... all that good stuff. Gives you a real taste of royal history, for sure.

I went there back in, um, December 2018? Flew in from Da Nang. Cost me, gosh, maybe 60 USD for the flight?

The Imperial City, wow. Seriously impressive. Spent a whole day just wandering around, imagining emperors and stuff. It's pretty cool.

Then there were the tombs... Khai Dinh's tomb? That one was wild. So ornate. So over the top. Loved it.

Okay, the food... Bun Bo Hue. So good. Spicy noodle soup. Seriously, find a street vendor and just go for it.

Honestly? It’s not the most exciting place in Vietnam, but it's got this... peaceful vibe. Definitely worthwhile if you're into history and culture, for real. I did enjoy Hue; and I feel you can too, definitely!

How many days in Hue is enough?

Hue in 3 days? Ideal, they say. As if ideal vacations aren't as rare as finding parking downtown. But alright, let's play along.

  • Day 1: Citadel strut. Morning glory, huh? More like morning torture. It's expansive, like my uncle's conspiracy theories. Prepare for historical overload and a lunch-induced coma.

    • Seriously though, pace yourself. It's not a race to the throne (which, spoiler alert, you won't win).

It is possible to cram the must-sees into two days. However, Hue's allure lies in its relaxed pace, a counterpoint to Hanoi's frenetic energy.

  • The "Real" Hue, Unpacked: Forget the guidebooks. "Real" Hue involves banh mi fueled scooter adventures, discovering hidden coffee shops where the wifi is stronger than the coffee, and bargaining with a vendor who insists you need five conical hats. I bought seven. Don't ask.
  • Beyond the Citadel: Consider a boat trip on the Perfume River, or a visit to the tombs of the emperors – each one more opulent and slightly creepy than the last. And the food! Oh, the food. Com Hen? Bun Bo Hue? I'm drooling just thinking about it, tbh. So, three days? Maybe. But honestly, why rush? Embrace the chaos, eat all the noodles, and buy more conical hats than you need. Trust me.
