March in Vietnam? A smashing choice, darling! Think Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but with less porridge and more breathtaking scenery. The north and central regions bask in dry season sunshine; the south? Merely pleasantly toasty, not a sweaty sauna like Mumbai in July, thank heavens. Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City—all clamoring for your attention. Pack light, the humidity won't flatten you like a dropped pancake.

• Northern Charm: Hanoi's ancient streets and Ha Long Bay's karst mountains are at their best.
• Central Coast Bliss: Hoi An's tailor shops and ancient town are delightful. Less rain than the monsoon season.
• Southern Comfort: Ho Chi Minh City hums with energy, but the heat is bearable in March compared to, say, my aunt Mildred’s kitchen in August.

Seriously, avoid visiting in July, unless you enjoy a monsoon-level downpour; even I, a seasoned traveler, wouldn’t risk it.

My 2023 trip was a revelation. I even learned to haggle like a pro, which you'll find particularly useful when purchasing those exquisite silk scarves in Hoi An. They were divine! I regret not buying more. Oh, and the pho? Forget about it. I gained five pounds, but I have zero regrets. Next trip I'm bringing extra luggage to accommodate my insatiable appetite and pho-related expansion.

March in Sapa? Yeah, it's awesome. I went last year, 2023, around mid-March. The rice terraces were starting to green up, so beautiful. Seriously stunning.

It was chilly, though. Like, really chilly mornings. Ten degrees maybe? I'd shiver getting out of bed in my little guesthouse. But sunny days warmed up nicely, perfect for hiking. Sweater weather, basically.

The best part? Fewer crowds than later in the spring. So much nicer for taking photos. I got some amazing shots of the Fansipan mountain looming in the distance. Absolutely breathtaking. The locals were all super friendly, too.

I did a trek to Cat Cat village. Loved it. Got to see women weaving textiles. They were incredibly skilled. I bought a scarf, a beautiful thing. Expensive, but worth it.

• Fantastic weather for hiking: Mostly sunny, mild temperatures.
• Fewer tourists: Less crowded than peak season. Meaning better photos.
• Stunning scenery: Rice terraces were coming alive.
• Wonderful local experiences: Met friendly people, saw traditional crafts.
• Pack layers: Cold mornings, warmer afternoons.

I even tried some local coffee. Strong stuff! It was amazing. Didn't take many pictures, to be honest. Just enjoyed being there, you know? Totally worth the trip. Go for it!

Is February a good time to visit Sapa?

Sapa in February... hmm. Is it even worth it? Okay, trekking. February is good for trekking, supposedly.

• Cool weather, that's nice. Don't want to sweat buckets, ew.
• Dry? Yes, please. Mud is the worst, esp with my new boots.
• Scenery is stunning... is it really? Need pics to prove.

Rice terraces... aren't they just fields? Local villages... hmm, cultural experience, maybe. What if they try to sell me stuff? That would be annoying. Plus I hate being stared at. Wonder if they speak English, probably not. Ugh.

Peaceful winter landscapes…sounds boring. But maybe photos will be good? Esp with the mist. Do I need a special camera? My cousin went in, like, July. She hated the rain. So, yeah, February is probs better than that.

Maybe I should just stay in Ha Noi and eat pho. Decisions, decisions! I can't hike anyway. My ankles always hurt. Remember that time in Yosemite? Never again.

Wait, no crowds in February? Maybe I'll go for that. Hordes of tourists ruin everything.

Actually, screw Sapa. I'm going to Phu Quoc. Beach time. End of story.
