How to find out who a phone number belongs to for free?

Okay, so this whole phone number thing. It was last year, 2022, November, I think. My sister, Sarah, kept getting these weird calls. Really freaked her out. She’s got this tiny apartment in Brooklyn, near Prospect Park. It was late at night, always. Scary stuff.

She was beside herself, shaking, you know? Seriously stressed. I told her about Truecaller. I use it myself; it's super handy. Been using it since 2021.

It's amazing. Seriously. It's not a free for all, you download the app.

• You give it access to your contacts, obviously.
• It identifies incoming calls.
• It has a massive database, honestly.
• Shows if it's spam, or who it is. Sometimes it even gives you a short description of the person. A business or something.

So Sarah downloaded it. Within a day, she knew who was calling her. Some telemarketer. Total annoyance. It was amazing. A huge relief for her. She was so relieved. She texted me a million times saying thank you. Problem solved, quick. That’s the beauty of Truecaller. Best app ever, seriously. The amount of time and stress it saved her. Priceless. I still use it regularly. And still think its the best app for it.

Is there a free way to find someones phone number?

Okay, so there was this one time... I needed to find my cousin Sarah's new number. She moved to Austin, Texas, in February 2024 for that new job at, uh, TechCorp or something. Lost her number completely after my phone died. Ugh, total panic.

I remembered my grandma always used the Whitepages, so I figured, why not? Whitepages.com, right? Free search, y'know.

It felt kinda weird, typing in her name and "Austin, TX". Like, I was stalking her or something. (I wasn't!) Anyway, didn't find anything. Frustrating!

Then, I tried Yellow Pages. Useless. SuperPages? Double useless. Seriously, all these pages look the same. Are they even real?

Finally, I vaguely remembered "AnyWho," maybe? Okay, AnyWho.com... typed it in. Nothing relevant. Gah! It was seriously annoying. I ended up emailing her work friends to get her number. They sent it, thank GOD!

• Online directories: They're supposed to be free. LIES!
• Whitepages, Yellow Pages, SuperPages, AnyWho: They all promise the world. Don't believe the hype.
• Austin, Texas: Great city, apparently hard to find people's numbers there, LOL.
• February 2024: Month of the lost phone number incident. Never forget!

Honestly, these "free" directories are just a waste of time and energy! Just ask someone who knows! It's way simpler. Next time, I'm skipping the internet search and just calling up mutual friends. Ugh, remembering this situation just makes me angry.
