Cracked Your Wi-Fi Password and Can’t Remember It? Here’s How to See It!

We’ve all been there: a friend needs your Wi-Fi password, but it’s a jumble of random characters you swore you’d memorized (but didn’t). Luckily, retrieving your saved Wi-Fi password on your devices is easier than you think. Here’s how:

Important Note: This only works if you are currently connected to the Wi-Fi network or have connected to it in the past and your device has saved the password.

For Windows Users:

  1. Open Network Settings: Click the Wi-Fi icon in your taskbar and select “Network & Internet settings.”
  2. Go to Wi-Fi Status: In the new window, choose “Wi-Fi” from the left-hand menu.
  3. Access Network Properties: Under “Related Settings,” click “Change adapter options.” Right-click your Wi-Fi connection and select “Status.”
  4. Open Wireless Properties: In the new window, click on “Wireless Properties.”
  5. Security Tab and Reveal: Go to the “Security” tab and check the box next to “Show characters.” Your Wi-Fi password will be revealed in the “Network security key” field.

For macOS Users:

  1. Open Keychain Access: Press Command + Space to open Spotlight Search, type “Keychain Access,” and press Enter.
  2. Find Your Wi-Fi Network: In the Keychain Access window, search for the name of your Wi-Fi network.
  3. Get Password: Double-click your network name. Check the box next to “Show Password.” You may be prompted to enter your Mac’s user account password for security purposes.

Important Security Reminder:

Always exercise caution when revealing your Wi-Fi password. Only do this on your trusted devices and uncheck the “Show characters” option after you are done. This will help keep your network secure from unauthorized access.
