Should your hands be at 9 and 3 or 10 and 2?
Okay, so, where should your hands be on the steering wheel? I remember learning to drive, and my dad was all about the classic "ten and two" position. It felt so…official, you know? But things change, right?
Apparently, the recommended position now is actually nine and three. Yeah, lower down on the wheel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), those folks who know their stuff when it comes to car safety, they're the ones pushing for this. Why? Well, it's all about safety, especially when airbags are involved.
See, the older advice about ten and two? That's considered outdated now. I guess airbag technology has evolved, and having your hands higher up can actually be more dangerous if the airbag deploys. Ouch! Can you imagine getting whacked by an airbag with your arms in the way? No thanks!
I mean, I'm not saying my dad was wrong then, but it just goes to show you how things evolve. I think I'm gonna adjust my grip too. Maybe I'll finally break that ten-and-two habit. It feels weird at first, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. It's funny how driving habits passed down from our parents sometimes need a little updating, isn't it?
