What 5 documents must you have with you to obtain a passport?
Okay, so, from what I understand, to get a passport, Id need a valid photo ID – maybe my drivers license. Oh, and a photocopy of it, too! If I have a previous passport (even an old one!), thats good. A birth certificate could work, or perhaps my naturalization certificate, since Im not a native-born citizen, or even my employee ID. Its a bit overwhelming, honestly, but I guess they need to be sure!
Ugh, passports, am I right? It feels like gathering these documents is a treasure hunt! So, what do they want from me anyway? Let’s see… Definitely my driver’s license. I mean, that’s like, THE ID, right? And then…wait for it…a copy of my driver’s license. Why? I have the real thing right here! Makes you wonder. Then, if you’ve had one before, your old, possibly expired, maybe-even-slightly-embarrassing-photo passport. (Mine from high school? Yikes. Let’s not talk about it.) Okay, then comes the fun part. Proof you were even born, apparently! A birth certificate. Which, thankfully, I think my mom still has tucked away somewhere safe. Or, in my case – because I wasn’t born here – I need my naturalization certificate. Talk about official. I vaguely remember that ceremony… so long ago! And then, just when you think you’re done, sometimes they want more. I’ve heard of people needing things like their employee ID too. Seriously?! It’s like, how much proof do you need that I’m me?! I guess they’re just being super careful, what with all the, you know, stuff that goes on. It can feel a little overwhelming to be honest, but I guess it’s understandable. It’s a passport, after all! It’s kind of a big deal.
