What bills should not be put on autopay?

Okay, so you’re wondering which bills aren’t a good idea to put on autopay, right? It’s a valid question! I mean, autopay is super convenient, but sometimes… it can be a sneaky trap.

Personally, I’m a bit wary of putting utility bills, medical bills, and credit card bills on complete autopilot. Why? Well, let me tell you, I’ve been burned before!

With utility bills – think your electricity or water – you really want to keep an eye on those, you know? I remember one month, my water bill was like, triple the usual amount! If I hadn’t actually looked at the bill instead of just letting autopay do its thing, I wouldn’t have noticed the leak in my sprinkler system until who knows when! Plus, sometimes, there are just plain old errors. You wanna catch those.

And medical bills? Oh boy, those are a nightmare anyway, right? It’s hard enough to decipher them when you’re actually trying! So, imagining just letting them get automatically paid without looking? No way! There’s always that chance of a coding error or a charge for something you didn’t even get. I think I’d rather take the time and make sure I’m only paying for what I actually owe.

And then there’s credit card bills. Now, I love my credit cards for the rewards, but I also know they require a little extra supervision. I’m not saying I don’t trust myself, but sometimes it’s good to check to make sure I’m not overspending. You also want to catch any fraudulent activity ASAP! Plus, sometimes there’s that nagging feeling in the back of my head, wondering if I have a subscription that I completely forgot about!

Basically, with all of these, taking a few minutes each month to actually look at the statement can save you a lot of headaches – and money – down the road. Isn’t a little peace of mind worth more than the convenience of autopay, at least in these cases? I think so!
