What card information should I not give out?
What credit card details should I never share online or by phone?
Okay, so what credit card info should never be floating around online or over the phone? Basically, anything that unlocks your money.
Don't ever share your bank details or PIN, seriously. No one legit needs that info. I got a dodgy call once on 15 January 2023, pretending to be from my bank (Barclays maybe?), asking for my PIN. Massive red flag.
If someone is pushing for your PIN, online, on the phone, even face-to-face, that's a huge NO. Seriously, ditch 'em. Protect your funds.
Think of it like this: your credit card number is like your address, people need it to send you stuff. But your PIN is the key to your house. Don't hand out the key, ya know?
Is it safe to give card number and CVV?
Heck no! Giving out your card number and CVV is like handing over the keys to your bank vault… to a squirrel. A squirrel with a shopping addiction, that is.
Don't even think about sharing your expiration date. That's the squirrel's PIN number!
Never, ever, leave your card with someone. That’s asking for trouble and a sudden urge to buy a yacht. And a lifetime supply of rubber duckies.
Use 3D Secure (like Verified by Visa, Mastercard SecureCode). Think of it as the bouncer at the online shopping nightclub. It stops the riffraff, especially that squirrel. Most legit places use it these days.
Remember! It's easier to find a needle in a haystack than to get your money back after a scam. Been there, lost that, bought the t-shirt.
- Card Number/CVV: Keep 'em secret, keep 'em safe.
- Expiration Date: Treat it like your age... only share it with really, really close friends... maybe. Nah, still don’t share it!
- Physical Card: Hold onto it tighter than a toddler with a candy bar!
- 3D Secure: Embrace the bouncer. It is your friend!
