What does suspending a phone number do?

Okay, so if I suspend my phone number, its like putting it in a deep sleep. I cant use it to call anyone, and definitely no internet access – thats a bummer! But hey, at least Verizon wont be charging me anything during the suspension. Thats a huge relief, especially if Im still paying off the phone itself. It feels like a fair compromise, honestly.

Okay, so what happens when you suspend your phone number? Well, it’s kinda like putting it in a little coma, you know? Like it’s there, but not really there. I can’t call anyone, and definitely no surfing the web – bummer, right? Think of being on vacation, but without any phone service whatsoever. I did that once in the mountains, totally forgot to check about service, and I was just…gone. No texts, no calls, nothing!

But, hey, here’s the silver lining: at least Verizon (or whoever your provider is) usually won’t charge you anything during the suspension. That’s a HUGE relief, especially if you’re still shelling out cash to pay off the phone itself. It just feels like a fair trade, doesn’t it? A kind of “we’ll hold onto this number for you, just give us a breather” situation.

Like, think about it, if you lost your phone and were frantically trying to find it? Suspending the service could prevent someone from racking up a massive bill, you know? Or maybe you are deployed overseas, and you would still like to hold onto the number, but paying for service you cannot use, doesn’t make sense.
