What is a generous tip?
A generous restaurant tip is 20% or more of the pre-tax bill. 15-20% is standard, but 25% shows significant appreciation for excellent service. Servers often rely heavily on tips to supplement their low hourly wages.
Okay, so what’s considered a really good tip, right? Well, generally speaking, if you’re aiming for generous, you’re looking at 20% or more of the bill before tax. I mean, that’s the kind of tip that really makes a server’s day, you know?
Now, don’t get me wrong, 15-20% is still totally standard, totally acceptable. It’s what most people do. But if you want to really show your appreciation, like when the service was just outstanding, knocking it up to 25%? That’s gonna make you a star.
Honestly, it feels good to be generous, doesn’t it?
Think about it: these folks are often working for not much more than minimum wage, and they’re busting their butts running around, dealing with demanding customers (and sometimes, let’s be honest, really demanding customers!), all to make sure you have a good experience. So, tips aren’t just a bonus, they’re a huge part of their income, a big part of how they make a living. You know, it’s something I try to keep in mind every time I go out.
