What is the best way to get to Halong Bay?
Reaching Halong Bay: Fly into Hai Phong (HPH) or Hanoi (HAN) from Phu Quoc (PQC). Buses readily connect both airports to Halong Bay for a short and convenient land transfer. This offers the fastest and most efficient travel option.
Best Way to Reach Halong Bay?
Ugh, getting to Ha Long Bay from Phu Quoc? Let me think… Okay, so I flew from Phu Quoc to Hanoi in October 2022 – cost me around $150 on VietJet Air, if I recall correctly. A bit of a nightmare finding a decent bus afterwards, though. The airport’s chaotic.
Then the bus ride itself… took ages. Three hours plus, I think. Quite bumpy. Hai Phong would be closer, maybe? But Hanoi has more frequent flights. It was a trade-off. Totally worth seeing Ha Long though! Seriously stunning.
So, to sum up: Fly Phu Quoc to Hanoi, then bus. That’s my recommendation, based on my own trip. Might be slightly faster via Hai Phong, but flight options seemed limited last time I checked.
Can you get a train from Hanoi to Halong Bay?
Hanoi to Halong Bay? No train. Ha Long City, yes. Then bus or taxi. Two, three hours. Hanoi to City.
- Hanoi to Halong Bay: No direct train.
- Hanoi to Ha Long City: Train available (2-3 hours).
- Ha Long City to Halong Bay: Bus or taxi.
My last trip? July ’23. Brutal heat. Taxi cost, outrageous. Train, tolerable. Second class. Worth it. Wouldn’t bus it. Ever.
Can you take a train from Hanoi to Halong Bay?
No direct train… no, just no.
Hanoi to Ha Long Bay? There isn’t a train. Always thought there should be one. Dreamed of one. I remember taking the train to Hai Phong in 2022 instead. Similar… but not the same.
- Train/Bus Combo: You take a train to Ha Long City. That’s a few hours. Then a taxi or bus. Another chunk of time. Maybe a combined ticket exists? Simplify things.
- Limousine Bus: More expensive. Direct. No messing around. That sounds…easier. Less thinking.
Those train rides remind me of her. Yeah, her. We took the train everywhere. Never Ha Long, though. Should’ve gone.
