Lisbon to Porto by train? Think less "speedy bullet train" and more "romantic rollercoaster through postcard perfection." It's quick, yes, but oh so pretty.

Coastal views are the real stars of the show. Forget your usual snooze-fest commute; this is nature's IMAX. Seriously breathtaking.

The inland bits? Charming, in a "rustic farmhouse with a questionable plumbing system" kind of way. Not exactly Tuscany, but hey, you're in Portugal!

• Coastal section: Prepare for jaw-dropping cliffs. Seriously, you'll be snapping photos like a crazy tourist (guilty!).
• Inland: Vineyards, olive groves. It's the perfect Instagram filter of rural Portugal, if Instagram filters were real life.

My trip last summer? I actually used my new 2023 iPhone to video the entire thing. Now, I regret nothing. Except possibly not booking a first-class ticket.

Worth noting: this is subjective. My friend, bless her soul, found it slightly tedious. She prefers the high-speed line, not realizing that high-speed lines generally lack soul.

But! The fastest ones are supposedly like, 3 hours flat.

There's a ton of trains, like 15 a day, so the length of time varies... definitely check a planner thingy before ya go.

• Alfa Pendular are the fast trains, go for them if you want it QUICK.
• Intercidades are slower...but I think they're cheaper?
• São Bento station in Porto is really pretty - take photos!
• Campanhã is Porto's main train station - easier for connections.
• Book tickets in advance during peak season. Seriously, do it!
• First class is worth it! You get wayyy more leg room, y'know?
• Bring snacks! The train cafe's stuff is overpriced. I learned that the hard way when I spent like 15 euro on chips when I visited there last year.
• Power outlets are spotty... charge your phone fully!
• The views are actually pretty good, especially closer to Porto.
