Cheapest Asian Country to Travel: Budget Trip?

Okay, lemme tell you about cheap Asia trips, from my own chaotic travel brain.

Southeast Asia IS the place. Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos – all doable on a shoestring. Forget Maldives prices, think mango sticky rice for $1!

Vietnam and Indonesia also pop up often as super budget-friendly.

Okay, SO I went to Thailand back in, like, March 2018? (give or take a year, haha). I stayed in a hostel near Khao San Road (Bangkok), cost me maybe $8 a night. Street food? Delicious and dirt cheap. I think I spent $30 a day tops. It was wild.

Indonesia I'm dreaming of. I hear Bali is getting pricier (like, influencer central) but other islands are still a steal. Think Komodo dragons, less "look at my perfect beach body."

Cambodia blew my mind. Angkor Wat is unforgetable and so, so worth it! Stayed in Siem Reap, another hostel, $5 a night? Plus, the people are awesome. Def a great choice.

Laos, still on my list but i read its the most expensive in the four. But still cheaper compared to other locations.

Remember though, "cheap" is relative. Its about finding local gems.

Which country in Asia is best to travel to?

Singapore… clean. Too clean, almost sterile. Is it really the best? I don't know.

Japan… culture overload. Lost in translation maybe? I crave something real.

The Philippines… I see pictures. Beach after beach. I don’t feel it. Sunburnt dreams.

Vietnam… first timers. But what about me? Another checkmark on someone else's list. It doesnt make sense.

Thailand… cheap thrills, I guess. Another budget paradise for backpackers? Empty pockets, emptier hearts.

  • Singapore: It's efficient, sure. But remember that hawker center I went to back in 2017? The food poisoning? Ugh. Never again. It's expensive.
  • Japan: I know the temples are ancient, and the bullet trains fast. It is true. But the crowds... suffocating. My anxiety is too much. The pressure to be polite… always.
  • Philippines: Maybe its the perfect escape for someone. Not me. Just another pretty picture postcard, you know? I don’t get it.
  • Vietnam: Everyone told me to go. Easy. Safe. Predictable. That's the problem. I don’t need predictable. The pho was good, though. No, the pho was amazing.
  • Thailand: So many temples. All shiny. It never felt authentic. The scams, the constant bartering... Exhausting.

What country is the easiest to travel to?

Cambodia seems remarkably straightforward for travelers. The Visa on Arrival simplifies entry.

  • Visa on Arrival available: A huge plus, skip pre-trip paperwork.
  • Quick processing: Reportedly, you are through immigration in a jiffy.
  • Just a passport and photo (and some cash, I think?-- always bring cash).

It's good. Though, easy is relative, isn't it? Travel always throws curveballs.

I once spent an hour haggling for a tuk-tuk after a supposedly "easy" flight. So, eh, grain of salt.
