Iceland, eh? Safe as houses, apparently. Or, more accurately, safe as a geothermally heated house filled with Björk albums. Seriously though, it’s consistently ranked high. Makes sense. Vikings. Volcanoes. Minimal crime. A recipe for tranquility, my friends. A surprisingly chill cocktail.

Why Iceland tops the charts:

• Low crime rates: It’s practically a crime not to feel safe there.
• Political stability: About as exciting as watching paint dry… but in a good way.
• Natural beauty: Gorgeous landscapes; unlikely to be mugged by a glacier.
• Excellent healthcare: Should you somehow get into a scrape, you’ll be looked after splendidly. This is not a drill.

Let’s be clear, though. “Safest” is subjective. My Aunt Mildred once got chased by a sheepdog in the Scottish Highlands. She still hasn’t recovered. Point is: risk is relative. However, statistically, Iceland’s a top contender in 2024. I stand by that statement. That’s what my travel agent told me. Or maybe it was my cousin Barry, I get them mixed up sometimes.
