What is the Golden Rule short answer?
What is the Golden Rule? What is its simple definition?
The Golden Rule is the principle of treating others as one wants to be treated. It is often phrased as, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
I've been wrestling with this whole "Golden Rule" thing. You know, "treat others how you want to be treated." It sounds so right, so easy. But it's not.
I was at this little cafe, Morning Brew on 4th street, back on June 12th. I was completely zoned in, headphones on, trying to finish a design. This guy next to me, he taps my shoulder and points out my laptop battery was low. He was trying to be helpful, I guess.
My first thought wasn't gratitude. It was pure irritation. My whole creative flow just shattered. Gone.
And that's the whole problem right. He was doing exactly what he'd want someone to do for him. He values not having his laptop die. But what I wanted was to be left alone in my little bubble. His golden rule and my golden rule were two totally different things.
So now I'm thinking about somthing else. Maybe it should be, treat others how they want to be treated. It's harder, yeah. You have to actually pay attention.
It means you gotta listen, not just assume. It’s less about a simple rule and more about, I dont know, just seeing the other person. Really seeing them for who they are.
