Okay, so, you know how amazing a massage can be? Seriously, pure bliss. But there are definitely some spots you want to steer clear of. Like, duh, don’t massage a broken bone! Think about it – ouch! Who in their right mind would do that?!
Also, any place where you have an injury, like a pulled muscle or something. I remember once I had a really bad sprain in my ankle, and even the lightest touch near it was excruciating. Forget massage, I could barely stand to have a sock on it! So definitely off-limits.
Inflammation is another big no-no. Think hot, swollen, painful… why would you want to poke at that? Makes no sense. And varicose veins – those are kind of delicate, you know? My grandma has them, and she’s always saying not to press on them too hard. So I figure, better safe than sorry, right?
And then there’s the belly during pregnancy. I mean, I’m not pregnant, but it just seems like common sense to avoid that area. There’s a little human in there! You wouldn’t want to mess with that. And open wounds… okay, that one’s pretty obvious, isn’t it? Like, ew. Infection city! No thanks.
So basically, use your head. If it looks tender, feels tender, or you just have a gut feeling you shouldn’t touch it, then don’t! A massage should be relaxing and enjoyable, not a source of pain.
