When to activate international roaming?

When to Activate International Roaming

International roaming allows you to use your mobile phone while traveling abroad, enabling you to stay connected with family, friends, and colleagues. However, it's crucial to understand when to activate this feature to avoid incurring unexpected charges.

Automatic Activation

Typically, international roaming is activated automatically upon your departure. This means that your phone will connect to a local network in the destination country, allowing you to make calls, send messages, and access the internet.

Recommended Precautionary Measures

To avoid potential surprises on your phone bill, we recommend taking the following precautionary measures:

• Use Airplane Mode During Transit: While on flights and traveling between destinations, activate airplane mode on your phone. This will prevent your phone from connecting to any networks and incurring roaming charges.

• Disable Background Data: Ensure that background data usage is turned off on your phone. This will prevent apps from accessing the internet and consuming data while you're not actively using them.

Manual Activation

In some cases, you may need to manually activate international roaming. This is typically the case if your phone is not automatically connecting to a local network. To activate roaming manually, follow these steps:

1. Go to your phone's "Settings" menu.
2. Locate the "Network & Internet" or "Cellular" section.
3. Find the "Roaming" option and enable it.

Service Deactivation

International roaming is automatically deactivated when you return home. Your phone will reconnect to your home network without any manual intervention.

Additional Tips

• Check with your mobile provider regarding their international roaming rates and plans.
• Consider purchasing an international SIM card or data package to save on roaming costs.
• Use Wi-Fi whenever possible to minimize data usage and avoid roaming charges.

By following these guidelines, you can avoid unexpected charges while staying connected during your international travels.
