Will Apple Pay work if my phone has no service?

Does Apple Pay Work Without Cellular Service?

Apple Pay is a convenient and secure way to make contactless payments using your iPhone or Apple Watch. But what happens if you're in an area without cellular service? Can you still use Apple Pay?

The answer is yes, you can use Apple Pay even if your phone has no service. This is because Apple Pay uses near-field communication (NFC) technology, which allows your device to communicate with payment terminals without the need for an internet connection.

NFC is a short-range wireless technology that works by transmitting data between two devices that are close together. When you use Apple Pay, your device sends your payment information to the payment terminal using NFC. The payment terminal then processes the transaction and sends it to your bank for approval.

Because NFC does not require an internet connection, you can use Apple Pay even if you're in an area with no cellular service. However, you will need to have a mobile data connection or Wi-Fi to set up Apple Pay and to access your recent purchase history.
