The "Delivered" status for text messages, particularly iMessages, relies on a two-way communication between devices. It's not simply a confirmation that your message left your phone. Instead, it signifies that the recipient's device has successfully received the message. This requires their phone to be powered on, connected to a network (either cellular data or Wi-Fi for iMessages), and actively capable of receiving messages.
