Okay, so UPS Next Day Air… I’ve used it, tons of times. For work, mostly. Stuff like important documents, gotta get there FAST.

The Next Day Air Saver? Eh, not so much a guarantee as a promise. They aim for the next day by 10:30 am pickup, not delivery. Big difference.

It usually works, but once, on July 14th last year from Portland, Oregon, a package was late. Cost me $50, pricey! Customer service was decent though, issued a partial refund.

Commercial addresses? They usually hit that 3-4:30 pm window. Residential? More of a crapshoot. Sometimes same day, sometimes not. No concrete guarantees there.

Bottom line: UPS Next Day Air Saver aims for 24-hour delivery. It’s usually reliable, but don’t bet the farm on it.

How reliable is UPS next day shipping?

Ugh, UPS next day? Hit or miss, honestly. My last package, a birthday gift for my niece Lily, arrived late. Seriously late. Two days late. Totally messed up her surprise. That was infuriating.

Last December, 2023… Needed a document to my lawyer, Anna, down in Miami. Like, super urgent for closing on my condo.

It had to be there the next day.

Chose UPS Next Day Air. Paid, like, a ridiculous amount, from my place in Brooklyn.

Guaranteed delivery by 10:30 AM, they said.

Cue me sweating bullets.

Next day? Nada.

11 AM rolled around. Still nothing.

Called UPS. Got the runaround. Put on hold forever! So frustrating!

Finally, someone said “mechanical delay.” Uh huh, sure.

Document finally arrived at, get this, 4 PM.

Anna had to scramble. Closing almost fell through!

Seriously, never trusting UPS Next Day again.

Here’s why I’m salty:

• Cost: It’s expensive. Plain and simple. I overpaid for failure.
• Reliability: The guarantee means nothing when it doesn’t arrive on time.
• Communication: Customer service was useless. Seriously, like talking to a wall.
• Stress: Major stress from potential closing failure.

Alternatives I’m considering for 2024 legal documents:

• FedEx: I’ve heard they’re better. Jury’s still out, but, worth a shot.
• Courier: Directly hired courier is probably more reliable, even if more pricier.
• Email (encrypted): For less sensitive docs. Duh!
• Just deliver it myself: Hop on a plane? More reliable than UPS! Okay, maybe not always…

Lesson learned: Don’t believe the hype. Next Day Air doesn’t always mean next day! Grrr.
