Are premium economy seats good?

Honestly, Im all about premium economy now! After flying that way post-pandemic, I cant imagine cramming myself into economy for a long flight again. Its so worth the extra money. That smaller cabin alone makes a huge difference in noise levels and overall peace. Plus, the wider seats and extra legroom are a godsend. My mom gets way less stressed traveling in PE, and that alone is priceless to me!

Is Premium Economy Worth the Splurge? A Traveler’s Honest Take

For years, I was a staunch economy-class flyer. The logic was simple: save money wherever possible. But post-pandemic travel has changed my perspective, and now I’m a confirmed convert to premium economy (PE). After experiencing the upgrade, I can honestly say it’s worth every penny, particularly for longer flights. The difference is night and day.

My previous long-haul flights in economy were, frankly, miserable. The cramped seating, the constant jostling, the pervasive hum of the engines amplified by the close proximity to my fellow passengers – it all contributed to a stressful and uncomfortable experience. But my recent premium economy experience completely transformed my perspective.

The most immediate difference is the cabin itself. The smaller passenger capacity in PE translates directly into a significantly quieter and more peaceful environment. This reduction in noise alone is a huge boon. Gone is the constant chatter, the rustling of bags, and the incessant cries of babies (although, let’s be realistic, the occasional wails might still pierce the relative tranquility).

Beyond the quieter ambiance, the superior comfort of premium economy seats is a game-changer. The wider seats offer a noticeable improvement in personal space, allowing for more comfortable relaxation and even a chance to actually stretch out a little. The extra legroom is a godsend, particularly for taller passengers like myself. No more cramped knees or awkward contortions trying to find a comfortable position.

But the impact extends beyond my own comfort. Traveling with my mother, I’ve witnessed firsthand how much less stressful PE is for her. The enhanced comfort mitigates the usual anxieties associated with long flights, making the journey far more enjoyable for both of us. That peace of mind, knowing she’s traveling more comfortably and less stressed, is invaluable.

While premium economy undoubtedly costs more than economy, I believe the investment is justified for longer flights, especially for those with mobility issues or a heightened sensitivity to noise and cramped spaces. The improved comfort, quieter environment, and reduced stress levels far outweigh the additional expense, at least in my experience. Now, when I book flights, I actively prioritize premium economy whenever it’s within my budget. For me, the increased comfort and overall improved travel experience are simply priceless.
