Can I pay with USD in Bali?
Ugh, Bali! So excited to go, but this currency thing always stresses me out. Can I really not pay with USD? Like, seriously? I mean, I know it's Indonesia, but you'd think a tourist hotspot like Bali would be more…flexible, right? Apparently not. So, no, you can't just waltz into a warung (those little roadside eateries are amazing, by the way!) and flash your dollars.
I learned this the hard way, actually. Remember that time I went to Thailand? Thought I'd be clever and just use my USD card everywhere. Nope. Ended up paying way more in fees than I should have. Total disaster. This time, Bali, I'm being smarter!
The official word is you have to use Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Hotels might bend the rules a bit for pre-paid stuff, you know, if you're booking online, but forget about paying for your delicious Nasi Goreng with a twenty-dollar bill. It just won't happen.
So, what's the solution? Exchange your money at an official place – a bank or a licensed money changer. Don't go to some shady guy on the street, okay? I once saw my aunt get ripped off like that in Vietnam – terrible exchange rate! Seriously, it's not worth the risk. Better to play it safe and get a good rate upfront, then relax and enjoy the amazing beaches. Speaking of which…I need to book my flight!
