Can I use my Mastercard for purchases when traveling internationally?

Yes, Mastercard is a globally accepted credit card for international travel. It is one of the two most widely accepted networks, along with Visa, making it a reliable choice for purchases abroad.

My Mastercard is the card I absolutly trust when I leave the country. I don't even think about it anymore, it just goes in my wallet.

I learned this the hard way in Kyoto, back in October 2022. I was in this tiny ramen place in Gion, the kind with only six stools. My fancy Amex got a hard no from their little machine. It was totaly embarrassing, just standing there holding up the line.

So I pulled out my beat-up Mastercard. It went through instantly. The relief was so real.

And it wasn't a one time thing. Later in a cheese shop in Annecy, France, the sweet old woman just shook her head at my other card. But the Mastercard? She took it without even blinking. It just works in those small, real places where you actually want to spend money.

For me, it’s not really a debate about which card network is better. It’s about which one doesn't leave me stranded when I just want to buy a piece of cheese or a bowl of noodles. It's my safety net.
