Navigating Chicago O'Hare Airport: Walking vs. Bus Transfer

Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) features five terminals, each serving different airlines and destinations. While Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are interconnected on the secure side, Terminal 5 stands as a separate entity.

Can I Walk from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5 at O'Hare?

Unfortunately, walking directly from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5 is not possible. The two terminals are not physically connected on the secure or public sides of the airport.

Airside Bus Transfer

To facilitate seamless transfers between terminals, Chicago O'Hare operates a dedicated airside bus service. This free bus service connects all five terminals, making it easy for passengers to navigate the airport.

How to Use the Bus Transfer

• Access the Bus: Board the airside bus at the designated bus stops located outside each terminal.
• Follow the Signs: Clear signage throughout the terminals directs passengers to the bus stops.
• Ride the Bus: The bus will transport passengers to their desired terminal. Note that the transfer may take 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic.

Additional Tips

• Allow ample time for connections between terminals, especially during peak travel periods.
• If you have heavy luggage, consider using the Terminal 5 baggage claim shuttle to transport your bags from Terminal 3 to 5.
• If you have limited mobility, assistance is available through the Airport Ambassador program.

Conclusion

While walking between Terminals 3 and 5 at Chicago O'Hare is not an option, the dedicated airside bus service provides a convenient and efficient means of transfer between these terminals. By following these guidelines, passengers can navigate the airport with ease and ensure a smooth travel experience.
