Can You Buy a Ferry Ticket at the Port? The Case of Stena Line

While the convenience of online booking reigns supreme, sometimes plans change and you might find yourself wondering if you can snag a ferry ticket right at the port. When it comes to Stena Line, the answer is a qualified yes. While pre-booking online at stenaline.ie or stenaline.co.uk is the recommended approach, offering potential savings and guaranteeing your spot, Stena Line does provide alternative purchase options.

You can buy tickets in person at their travel centres located in Dublin and Holyhead. This offers a good option for those who prefer face-to-face interaction or are dealing with last-minute travel adjustments. However, keep in mind that travel centre hours might not align with all sailing times, so checking their operating hours beforehand is essential.

Perhaps the most convenient last-resort option is purchasing your ticket onboard at the Guest Services Desk. This allows for maximum flexibility, particularly useful if your travel plans are uncertain. However, it's important to note that purchasing tickets at the port, either at the travel centre or onboard, could mean paying a higher fare compared to booking online in advance. Additionally, availability isn't guaranteed, especially during peak season or for popular sailings. The ferry could be fully booked, leaving you stranded.

So, while buying a Stena Line ticket at the port is possible, it's not the ideal method. Booking in advance online via stenaline.ie or stenaline.co.uk offers the best chance of securing your preferred sailing at the most competitive price. Consider the port options as a backup plan, understanding the potential for higher fares and limited availability. Planning ahead is always the best strategy for smooth sailing.
