Can you drink on the train in Vietnam?

So, you're wondering if you can crack open a cold one on a train in Vietnam? That's a great question! I was wondering the same thing myself before my trip last year. Honestly, I pictured myself chugging a local beer while gazing out at the rice paddies –pure bliss, right?

And guess what? Yeah, you totally can drink on the train! At least, on most trains I've been on. They usually have these little restaurant cars, and you can get beer there, along with food. I remember ordering a Bia Saigon –it was pretty good, way better than I expected, actually. Super refreshing after a long day sightseeing. They also had some fancier stuff, but I stuck with the local brew. Why mess with perfection?

Now, I’m not saying there aren't any rules. I mean, you wouldn't want to get totally hammered and start a karaoke session, would you? Probably not a good idea. It's always smart to check with the staff – you know, just to be on the safe side. They're generally pretty friendly, at least the ones I met were. But I think it's pretty chill overall, unlike some countries where the train police would be on you like white on rice if you dared to sip anything stronger than water.
