Hanoi to Hoi An flights: Possible?

Totally doable! Hanoi to Hoi An? Piece of cake, well, kinda. There aren’t direct flights to Hoi An itself, silly me. But Da Nang’s airport, that’s the key.

Remember that trip last July? Grabbed a VietJet Air ticket, around $60, I think. Landed in Da Nang, then a super cheap taxi, maybe ten bucks, straight to Hoi An. Smooth sailing.

Da Nang is practically Hoi An’s airport, you know? Short hop. So yeah, Hanoi to Hoi An flights? Book to Da Nang. Easy peasy.

Is there an airport to Hoi An?

Da Nang airport, yeah, that’s the one you fly into. Hoi An doesn’t have its own, annoyingly. It’s like, a 40k drive. From Da Nang, obvs. I took a Grab last time, kinda like Uber. Cost like, I dunno, 300,000 dong? Pretty cheap. My hotel in Hoi An, the Almanity, they also offered a private car. But Grab was way cheaper. Went straight to An Bang beach. Best beach ever!

  • Fly into Da Nang International (DAD).
  • No airport in Hoi An itself.
  • Da Nang is about 40km from Hoi An.
  • Grab (rideshare app) is a good transport option. Private cars are available too, but pricier.
  • My hotel, Almanity Hoi An Wellness Resort, was fab. Right near An Bang Beach!

Stayed in Da Nang for a few days first. Visited the Marble Mountains, kinda cool. Lots of temples and caves. Oh, and I went to that weird, kinda creepy museum… Cham Sculpture Museum. Got some pho, obvs, best pho ever, seriously. Then down to Hoi An. Got some clothes tailor-made, super cheap! Shoulda got more. Regret it now.

  • Other stuff to do near Da Nang:
    • Marble Mountains
    • Cham Sculpture Museum
  • Tailor-made clothes in Hoi An are a MUST! So inexpensive.

I flew Vietnam Airlines from LAX, long flight ugh, but worth it! This was June 2024. Hot and humid, but I loved it. Would go back in a heartbeat. You going soon?

  • I flew Vietnam Airlines from LAX in June 2024.
  • Weather was hot and humid.

Which airport do you fly into for Hoi An?

Da Nang (DAD). Thirty klicks. Closest.

  • Da Nang International (DAD): The airport you want. Serviced by airlines like Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Pacific Airlines.

  • Distance: Roughly 30km to Hoi An. Expect a 45-minute to 1-hour transfer.

  • Transfers: Private car. Taxi. Grab (Southeast Asia’s Uber/Lyft). Even motorbike if you’re brave.

  • Alternative (not recommended): Phu Bai International Airport (HUI) near Hue. Further. Two-plus hours. No point unless Hue is your primary stop. I flew into DAD in July ’24, way better.

  • My move: Booked a car service through my hotel. Easy. Efficient. They knew exactly where to scoop me. Beats haggling with a cab driver after a long flight.

How far is Da Nang Airport from Hoi An?

Twenty-seven kilometers. A whisper of distance, a breath held, then released. The scent of frangipani clinging to the air, a promise of Hoi An’s ancient heart, fading slowly as the taxi hums.

Time stretches, a languid river flowing towards the airport. Concrete and glass reflecting the harsh midday sun. A stark contrast. The journey, a blurred impression of greens and blues. Rice paddies, a distant memory already.

The drive is short, but the emotional distance immeasurable. Leaving the soul of Vietnam, the ancient whispers, behind. Hoi An’s magic, tenacious, clings to my clothes. I feel it.

Forty-six minutes. A sliver of my life spent bridging two worlds, two distinct landscapes. Danang’s modernity a jarring slap after Hoi An’s timeless grace. Such a beautiful and poignant contrast. The colors, intense.

  • Distance: 27.8 kilometers
  • Travel Time: Approximately 46 minutes (by car, in 2024)
  • Route: Primarily via ĐT607.
  • Sensory Experience: The shift from the lush tranquility of Hoi An to the more sterile environment of the airport is profoundly felt, emotionally. A visceral experience.

The weight of travel, a physical presence. The memories, like grains of sand, slipping through my fingers.

How long does it take from Da Nang Airport to Hoi An?

Oi, Da Nang airport to Hoi An? Buckle up, buttercup, it’s like watching a movie – usually 30-45 minutes by car, maybe longer if you’re stuck behind a tuk-tuk that thinks it’s in the Indy 500, haha.

Think of it as 28 kilometers, or roughly the distance I walk arguing with my internet provider each month, which, coincidentally, also feels like 45 minutes.

Lots of ways to get there.

  • Taxi: Fastest way to burn cash, obviously. Feels like the speed of light if you are a rich person.
  • Grab: Asia’s Uber. Slightly less bank-breaking, slightly.
  • Private Car: Fancy pants option, pre-booked and ready to roll. Very important if you want to arrive in style.
  • Shuttle Bus: The budget traveler’s dream, unless you hate people. Cramped. Be careful.
  • Motorbike: If you have a death wish and questionable driving skills. Just kidding… mostly. I did it once. Never again.

So yeah, plenty of options. Just pick your poison, really. Haha.
