Wasn’t there last year? Or this year? I get confused. Wait… my trip was in 2022. Duh.

• Go early morning, less crowded. Like, REALLY early.
• Wear comfy shoes; you’ll be doing a lot of walking.
• Be super aware of the trains – they are fast and come unexpectedly. I swear, almost got clipped last time I was there!
• Don’t be a jerk to the locals. They live there! Respect their space, their homes.

Honestly? It’s worth the hassle. The whole thing is so unique, a real experience. The houses are so close to the tracks, it’s insane. Pictures are awesome, but being there…it’s different. I even bought a cool little keychain from a street vendor, a tiny train. It’s sitting on my desk now! But yeah, watch your step – its super busy and you have to be careful near the tracks. Man, Train Street in Hanoi. I went in 2023, July, I think. It was crazy crowded. Total chaos. Hot, sticky, the air thick with exhaust fumes and the smell of street food. Absolutely nuts. You couldn’t walk on the tracks like the photos show. Nope. Security everywhere.

Police, everywhere. Seriously. Barriers. It was all cordoned off. The whole street? A total disappointment. I was gutted. I’d pictured myself strolling along the tracks, train whooshing by. Instagram lied.

So, where can you see a train go by? Well, there are spots nearby – you’ll find better viewpoints from the sides, little alleyways. It’s not the same. But you still get some sense of it.

• Official access to the tracks is blocked. Don’t even try.
• Crowds are insane. Go early or late to avoid the worst of it.
• Expect security. They’re serious about keeping people off the tracks.
• Find alternative viewing points. Little streets nearby offer decent views.

• Weekdays: 7:00 PM, 7:45 PM, 8:30 PM, 10:00 PM. Pretty late.

Weekends… this is gonna be long. Why so many?

• Sat/Sun: 6:00 AM?! Seriously?! Also, 9:00 AM, 11:20 AM, 3:20 PM, 5:30 PM, 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 7:45 PM, 8:30 PM, 9:00 PM, and a late one at 11:00 PM. Ugh.

So many trains. I went there in 2023. Never again. The pho nearby was amazing. Wait, trains… they’re probs delayed anyway, right? Always are in VN.

Weekdays are simple though, less to remember!

Weekend schedule is PACKED. Avoid if you can. Seriously. Go get a banh mi instead.
