You gotta go to Halong City first. Train or bus from Hanoi takes about 2.5-3 hours. I took the train once, back in May ’22. Pretty comfy, cost me something like 200,000 VND.
Then from Halong City, it’s a taxi or bus to the actual bay. Another 30-45 minutes, give or take. Think I paid around 50,000 VND for the bus. Slightly hazy memory, though.
Some tours bundle train/bus tickets. Makes it easier I spose. But I like doing things my way, figuring it out as I go.
Or… limousine bus straight from Hanoi to Halong Bay. Bit pricier, a tad more convenient. My friend, Lan, swore by it.
