Contactless Payments Now Available on Toronto Trams

Toronto’s public transit system, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), has announced the implementation of contactless payment options on its trams. Effective August 15th, riders can conveniently tap their credit cards, debit cards, or digital wallets to board trams, as well as other modes of public transportation within the TTC network.

This upgrade enhances the TTC’s commitment to providing efficient and seamless travel experiences for its customers. The contactless payment feature eliminates the need for cash or Presto cards, offering a quick and easy way to pay for fares.

“We are excited to offer contactless payment on our trams, providing our riders with a more convenient and efficient way to board our vehicles,” said TTC Chair Jaye Robinson. “This modernization aligns with our ongoing efforts to improve the customer experience and make public transit more accessible for everyone.”

To use the contactless payment system, riders simply tap their card or device on the PRESTO reader located on the tram. The fare will be automatically deducted from the associated account, and a receipt will be provided upon request.

The TTC reminds riders that the contactless payment option is an alternative to the existing Presto card system. Presto cards remain a viable and convenient payment method for those who prefer them.

This innovative addition to the TTC’s payment system is part of a broader modernization initiative aimed at enhancing the overall transit experience for Torontonians. The TTC continues to explore and implement new technologies and services to improve customer satisfaction and provide a safe, reliable, and accessible public transit system for the city.
