Navigating Between Terminals at San Diego International Airport

San Diego International Airport (SAN) features two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, which are not connected for pedestrian access. This means that travelers wishing to move between terminals must utilize shuttle services or other ground transportation options.

Shuttle Services:

Free shuttle buses operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, connecting Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The shuttle stop at Terminal 1 is located near Door 4 on the lower level. At Terminal 2, the shuttle stop is situated near Door 5 on the ground level. Shuttles arrive approximately every 15 minutes and the journey takes roughly 5-10 minutes.

Other Ground Transportation Options:

Passengers can also opt for other forms of ground transportation to travel between terminals, including:

• Rental Cars: Rental cars can be rented from the Ground Transportation Center, which is accessible via the shuttle bus or a short walk from either terminal.
• Taxis: Taxis are available at designated taxi stands outside both terminals.
• Ride-Sharing Services: Ride-sharing services such as Uber and Lyft also operate at SAN. Passengers can request a ride through the respective apps and be picked up at designated pickup areas near the terminals.

It’s important to note that even movement within Terminal 1 requires re-clearing security. Therefore, travelers should allow ample time for security checks and transportation when planning their movement between terminals.
