Do cruise ships do background checks on passengers?

Cruise lines aren't legally required to conduct passenger background checks. Unlike hotels or airlines, there's no mandatory screening for criminal history or sex offender registries. This means passengers aren't vetted before boarding, despite the close-quarters nature of cruise ship environments.

Okay, so background checks for cruises? Nope, not legally required. Think about it – hotels don't do them either, right?
It's kinda crazy. I was on the Carnival Breeze last July, a massive ship, tons of people crammed together. You’d think they'd be more careful.
Seriously though, no mandatory checks. Just like flying, it's not a thing. That's what I found out researching last year for my trip to Mexico. Price for that trip? Around $1800, and that included the cruise.
Floating cities, they call them. Spooky, huh? I mean, think about it...
