Are there phone chargers on VIA Rail?

Ugh, VIA Rail chargers. So annoying. I needed to charge my phone on my trip from Toronto to Montreal last month. Luckily, I had one. But still.

All the cars have outlets, at least that’s what I remember from the website. HEP and LRC trains. Business and Economy. Seriously? They’re charging people a fortune and they don’t even provide universal chargers? That’s ridiculous. I mean, come on.

The HEP thing is in the Québec City-Windsor corridor, the Canadian, and the Ocean. The Ocean one only sometimes, which is stupid. What is that? They should provide chargers across the board. People rely on their phones.

I really hate relying on those seat plugs. Always feel flimsy. My old Galaxy died because of one, I think.

Anyway, I was late. Missed my connection in Ottawa, what a mess. Ugh, that whole day was awful. I’m still annoyed. The food wasn’t good either, some weird chicken sandwich.

Do national rail trains have charging ports?

Ugh, train travel. Power sockets, right? Most do, I think. Definitely the newer ones. My last trip on Avanti West Coast? USB and plug sockets galore, first class. Standard class? Maybe? I didn’t check. Lazy me.

Seriously though, it’s a gamble. Older trains? Forget about it. You’re SOL. Unless you’re in first, ha! First class perks, amirite?

• Train Operator Matters: It’s nuts how much this changes. GWR? Usually good. LNER? Hit or miss. Check their websites. Seriously. Don’t be like me.

• Train Type: Modern trains? Yes. Antique relics? No. Duh.

• Class of Travel: First class usually wins. Always. It’s worth it for the peace and quiet alone. Let alone the reliable power.

My phone’s almost dead. Need to charge it. Anyway, just double-check before you go. Don’t trust my word! I’m terrible with details. And trains. I hate trains.

I’m getting a new phone. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. It’s expensive. But the battery is amazing. Hopefully, I won’t need to charge it during my next train journey. That’s wishful thinking. I’m such a planner. Always late, never prepared. This will change. Right?

The power outlets on GO trains… it’s a gamble, you know? A real crapshoot.

Some do, some don’t. Seriously. It’s infuriating.

Series 1 and 10 coaches, supposedly, have them. White lights above are the clue, I’ve noticed.

But even then… They’re often dead. Useless. I’ve tried. Many times this year.

The older cars, forget it. Forget it entirely. GG trains? A complete waste of time. Never work. Never.

My commute is brutal enough without dead outlets. It’s 2024. Shouldn’t this be standard?

It’s a small thing, I know. But it adds to the overall… ugh. The overall suckiness. The frustration. The daily grind.

• Series 1 and 10 coaches: May have outlets. Check for white lights.
• GG trains: No working outlets. Don’t even bother.
• Outlet reliability: Generally poor. Even when present.

It’s pathetic, actually. Just… pathetic.
