Do trains in France sell out?
Do French trains often sell out, and how can I find tickets?
Ugh, French train tickets? A total nightmare sometimes. Seriously, TGV's sell out, especially during peak season like July last year when I tried to get from Paris to Nice. Couldn't find anything under €150 last minute.
Booking way ahead is key. Like, months ahead. I learned that the hard way. Websites like Trainline or the SNCF website are your best bet.
I snagged a Paris-Lyon ticket on Trainline in February for a June trip; cost around €60. Early bird gets the worm, or, you know, the train seat.
How far in advance can I book a train in France?
Three months... huh. Feels like a lifetime.
Three months in advance is all you get, generally.
Seems kinda short, doesn't it?
Booking window: Approximately 90 days prior to departure.
Exceptions exist, of course. High-speed lines, TGV mainly, sometimes open earlier. Maybe 4 months. Gotta stalk the SNCF website, my friend Pierre taught me that. Miss him.
Regional trains, though. Those are a crapshoot. Might be way shorter. Like, a few weeks.
Keep an eye on peak seasons especially, like summer.
Or around the Christmas holidays. Tickets vanish. I spent Christmas alone in Paris once because of that.
Use the SNCF Connect app. It's a necessary evil.
How far in advance can you book France train tickets?
France train ticket booking: Four months for high-speed TGV, Intercités. Regional TER? Three to five. Summer travel? Longer. January bookings opened for May travel this year. March for July, then September.
Online purchase: Oui.sncf website. Simple.
Key Differences:
- TGV/Intercités: Book four months out.
- TER: Three to five months out.
- Summer Travel: Extended booking windows. Check Oui.sncf. My personal experience: Snagged tickets for a Nice trip in May, booked in January.
Important Note: Specific dates vary yearly. Confirm via Oui.sncf, the official site. Don't screw this up. My last trip, I almost missed my train because the site was glitching.
