Does anyone stamp passports anymore?

US immigration largely stopped stamping passports due to technological advancements. Digitization allows for faster, simpler processing of entry and exit, eliminating the need for physical stamps. This speeds up border control and improves efficiency.

Does anyone actually stamp passports anymore? I mean, seriously, it feels like a relic of the past, doesn’t it? I remember getting my passport stamped in Italy years ago – it was such a cool little souvenir, a tiny piece of paper proof I’d been somewhere amazing. Now? Nothing. Zip. Zero.

Apparently, US immigration mostly ditched the stamping thing. Something about technology, right? They say digitizing everything makes it faster, simpler. I guess that makes sense… but it’s just not as fun. It’s less… tangible, you know? Like, where’s the proof I was there, aside from a blurry Instagram photo and a slightly emptier bank account? (Don’t even get me started on the credit card bills from that trip!)

They claim it speeds things up at border control – which, okay, fine. I can see that. Long lines are the WORST. But part of me misses that little ritual, that tiny official mark saying, “Yep, you were here.” It felt…official. Important. Like a secret club membership. Now it’s all just… electronic whispers. A little less romantic, I think. Maybe I’m just being nostalgic, though. What do you think?
