Does Renfe Intercity have Wi-Fi?

Connecting on the Rails: Wi-Fi Availability on Renfe Intercity Trains

Spain's Renfe railway network boasts a diverse range of services, catering to various budgets and travel styles. While high-speed AVE trains and budget options like Avlo, Ouigo, and Iryo offer a convenient perk – complimentary Wi-Fi – the availability of internet access on other lines is less consistent. This is particularly true for Renfe Intercity services.

The short answer is: no, Renfe Intercity trains do not generally offer Wi-Fi. Unlike their faster, more modern counterparts, most Intercity lines lack the onboard infrastructure necessary to provide a reliable Wi-Fi connection. Passengers hoping to stay connected during their journey on these routes will need to rely on alternative methods.

This absence of Wi-Fi on Intercity services is a key differentiator between them and the more premium and budget-conscious high-speed options. While AVE, Avlo, Ouigo, and Iryo passengers can readily access the internet via the PlayRenfe app, Intercity travelers should plan accordingly.

This lack of connectivity shouldn't necessarily deter passengers from choosing Intercity services, however. These trains often serve regional routes and offer a charming alternative to the speedier, but sometimes less scenic, high-speed lines. The trade-off for the absence of Wi-Fi might be a more leisurely and picturesque journey.

So, if seamless internet access is a priority for your Spanish rail travel, ensure you book a ticket on an AVE, Avlo, Ouigo, or Iryo train. For those prioritizing a more scenic or budget-friendly route serviced by Intercity lines, be prepared to disconnect and enjoy the landscapes unfolding outside your window. Remember to check the specific details of your chosen train and route before departure, as occasional exceptions or pilot programs might exist. However, for the vast majority of Intercity services, expect a Wi-Fi-free experience.
